OBSERVATIONS/RESULTS
Key findings of the two studies were separately analysed and recommendations were made to improve the structures of the Sri Lankan police and its operations. Shortterm, short-term to mid-term and mid-term to long-term recommendations with suggested activities were given for both studies.
Study A mapped the structure, functions, and staff composition; identified their mechanisms; reviewed resource allocation for the Bureaus, and evaluated the quality of services provided by allWomen and Children’s Desks throughout Sri Lanka.
Study B identified women’s presence in the organisational hierarchy; identified gaps in existing policies, processes, and mechanisms in the Sri Lanka Police that undermined gender equality; and evaluated practices that are discriminatory to women.
