The project will target two groups, namely (i) those who are not attending school and (ii) girls who have dropped out from senior secondary school. Studies have shown that the major reasons are poverty, lack of nutrition, and disability. For those in the first category the specific reason(s) will be ascertained and they will be supported to overcome the constraints they face to ensure that they attend school regularly so that they attain the standards necessary to enroll in vocational training classes. Those in the second category will be provided vocational education that will enable them to acquire skills to access income earning opportunities. These target groups will be selected from two low income neighbourhoods in the Kalutara district. The duration of the project will be one year

The project aims to increase the access of female secondary school leavers in low income families to employment oriented ‘non-traditional’ skills that meet labour market demand.
